Dignity in Care

Dignity in care has been part of the Helen McArdle Care philosophy from the beginning. Helen McArdle has always been a Dignity Champion and she is so passionate about providing dignified care that all staff are trained and mentored to ensure that the residents are treated with the dignity they deserve.

At Helen McArdle Care we have the firm belief that everyone has the right to dignity, privacy and respect.

As Dignity Champions we fully support the Department of Health Dignity in Care Campaign, we aim to:

  • Have a zero tolerance of all forms of abuse.
  • Support people with the same respect you would want for yourself or a member of your family.
  • Treat each person as individual by offering a personalised service.
  • Enable people to maintain the maximum possible level of independence, choice and control.
  • Listen and support people to express their needs and wants.
  • Respect people’s right to privacy.
  • Ensure people feel able to complain without fear or retribution.
  • Engage with family members and carers as care partners.
  • Assist people to maintain confidence and a positive self esteem.
  • Act to alleviate people’s loneliness and isolation.

Your Dignity Champions

Each of our care homes has a team of Dignity Champions to oversee dignity in care and to educate and mentor other members of staff. The Dignity Champions have been chosen based on their passion to achieve compassionate, person centred and efficient care. Photographs of Your Dignity Champions are placed in the reception area of your home.

Dignity Action Day – 25 Febuary 2010

To raise awareness of Dignity in Care, each of our homes held a social event to introduce the Dignity Champions to the residents and their families. The residents and their guests enjoyed canapés and a glass of champagne whilst they talked to their Dignity Champions about just what dignity means to them.
